Mummy portraits are masterpieces of funerary art that were produced during Egypt’s Roman era. They are painted wooden panels that were once placed over the face of the deceased’s mummified body. These portraits realistically depict the deceased as they looked like before their deaths. We will discover how burial practices changed and how this special funerary equipment evolved in Egypt thanks to the encounter of different cultures.

The talk will be given by Bernadett Szűcs, egyptologist and museum educator.
